JOB TITLE: Waiter/Waitress

REPORTS TO: Restaurant Manager
START DATE: June 2018 (with the possibility of starting earlier for special events)

Job Purpose:
• The Waiter/Waitress will be responsible for providing consistently high levels of customer service to all restaurant patrons by providing prompt service, taking accurate orders, and maintaining a strong working knowledge of all menu items and daily specials. 


Duties and Responsibilities:
The following is a summary of main duties for some occupations in this unit group:
• As an ambassador for Fort Steele ensures that the Food Services department promotes the Friends of Fort Steele 
• Maintains a positive atmosphere when representing the Friends of Fort Steele
• Performs customer service duties in a friendly and professional manner at all times and ensures that the patron has an enjoyable dining experience
• Takes orders from customers and ensures they are given to the appropriate person to execute
• Serves food and beverages in accordance with food safe standards
• Cleans designated areas as assigned in accordance with standards/procedures to meet all hygiene requirements
• Clean tables as soon as possible after customers have finished their meal but ensuring that customers do not feel rushed  
• Sets tables to standards/procedures ensuring all items are clean and undamaged
• Ensures side boards on stations are stocked with replacement cutlery, linen or other established needs, be they food or equipment
• Monitors and sets up the lunch bar
• Ensure customers are correctly charged, billed and payment is processed in accordance with procedures
• Attend to customer complaints in a timely and satisfactory manner
• Take part in any fire drill and be familiar with all exit points
• Continually be aware of and maintain the highest standards of personal hygiene and dress
• Attend all meetings and training courses as required
• Works with volunteers as required and supports the volunteer program
• Reports any issues immediately to management 
• Uses good problem solving abilities to identify and resolve daily issues
• The person in this position needs to be able to work as a team player, be able to take instruction, as well as work independently
• Must be willing to perform other duties as requested

Qualifications:

• High school diploma preferred
• Food Safe and Serving it Right certificate
• Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills
• Prefer previous waiter/waitressing restaurant service experience
• Requires the use of basic mathematical skills for collecting and processing payments
• Cash register, debit machine and cash out experience
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically and professionally at all times
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Professional appearance and manners
• Strong work ethic and positive team attitude

Working Conditions:
• Waiters/Waitresses work in indoor & outdoor environments
• Evening and weekend work is required
• Peak season and holiday periods are busier
• Individuals in this line of work solve problems and respond to complaints in a busy and time sensitive environment
• It is not uncommon to be managing and/or resolving many issues at one time
• Waiters/Waitresses must be able to work under pressure and deal with a high level of stress
• Wearing of a period costume is required at all times
• Must behave in a manner in keeping with the 1890s
• Working in a large tourist attraction with the general public
• Flexibility with scheduling is required
• Non-standard hours and or non-standard work weeks

Physical Requirements:
• This occupation is physical in nature as it involves long periods of standing and walking in the restaurant/facility/on site
• Must be physically fit and be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Some tasks may be repetitive in nature
• Overtime hours may be required at the General Managers discretion

Conditions of Service:
