Fort Steele Railway Co.
Put yourself in the seat of an early rail traveler.
Fort Steele’s steam train ride is an astonishing experience, putting you in the seats of earlier adventurers who saw this spectactular countryside for the first time more than 100 years ago.
The train is scheduled to run daily during our summer season, however, please note that our engine is an authentic Steam Locomotive from 1923 and requires special attention and care. Occasionally the train will need immediate mechanical repair and/or maintenance. Please call ahead for updates on our train schedule.
The train leaves the Fort Steele Station for a 20 minute circuit through breathtaking scenery, stopping halfway at a viewing platform that offers a unique perspective of the townsite of Fort Steele and the Kootenay and St Mary Rivers below.
Steam Train Tickets:
- Adults (18-64 years) - $12
- Senior (65 years+) - $10
- Child (6-17years) - $7
- 0-5 Years - Free
The Fort Steele Steam Railway is an operating museum which interprets the experience of branch-line rail travel to the logging, mining and ranching communities of the East Kootenays. In addition to riding on the steam train, visitors are invited to look at the historic railway equipment and stationary steam engines displayed outside the engine house. Our vintage locomotive “1077” is a source of fascination for our visitors and for Hollywood: it has been used in several movies shot north of the border.
